Kupang Day Out

Hi everyone,
Yesterday (Saturday) we had a great day in Kupang.  We spent the morning meeting and chatting with other Sail Indonesia yachties from Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Sweden and the US.  We also walked around the local area a little more widely, find all sorts of interesting shops.

In the afternoon we took a taxi ride up into the hills to one of the big regional markets.  We went with the crews from The Doctor, Kokomo V and Nefertiti 1, all packed into a "people-mover".  The drive out of Kupang was interesting and the scenery and buildings in the countryside likewise.  Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures along the way.

When we reached the market we found they were closed!  The driver found an interesting place for us to explore where the locals were BBQing/smoking pork.  There were some nice old buildings there too, some apparently dating back 100 years or more.

After the tour we did some food shopping back in Kupang and then met up with the same crowd plus the crew of Babar to go to the Night Market again for dinner.  We all jammed into a single mikrolet and rode there for a fee of 20,000Rp (AU$2).

This morning (Sunday) we departed Kupang at 0730 and are sailing north with a nice SE breeze of about 10 knots.  There are about a dozen other yachts in sight.  Champagne sailing for the moment.  We are unsure exactly where are bound since we're unsure what currents we'll experience when we get north of Timor.  If the currents are mild we hope to head for Kalabahi on the island of Alor, but if they are against us consistently we'll head for Lambata on the island of Kawula.
