Nassua Area to Eleuthera

Hi everyone,

After our successful US visa interview in Nassau we knew we had several days to wait before we'd get our passports back.  So we spent a couple of days anchored off Athol Island then two more off Rose Island.

Here are the tracks for those short passages:

The anchorage on the NW side of Athol Island isn't great.  It has varying holding but happily winds were light.  We had a relaxing couple of days on the hook.

Passing W end of Athol Island

We knew the Rose Island anchorage was much nicer so moved there.  We had one perfect day and one not so perfect.  On day one we snorkelled over the reef on the NE side of the anchorage.  Far nicer than the reef on the N side.

Day two at Rose Island saw another blow come through.  We hunkered down and left the following morning for Nassau.  We anchored in the East Channel, just short of the line of marinas, as we had before.  The following day we dinghied ashore and walked to the DHL office where our passports were waiting.  The US embassy had sent us emails with DHL tracking numbers.  We did a supermarket run on the way back.

With our passports in hand we were free at last.  Felt like the first time since we booked our embassy interviews.  Huzzah!

The following day we had a great sail from Nassau to Current Island,  W of Eleuthera Island.  There was a steady WNW breeze which was very nice indeed for the 40nm passage.

We spent two nights at Current Island.  On day two we dinghied across to the lagoon.  Spectacular colours but no sea life seen.  Anchored in 2.5-3m over sand which we're now used to!

Next we motored the 10nm to Glass Window in less than 5 knots of breeze.  This is a famous spot where the Atlantic 'breaks through' into the Sound during storms.  At the moment both sides are calm.

Yesterday we dinghied around the bay to the Glass Window.  Amazing light and colours, but again very little sea life seen.  Later in the day we had a swim to cool off and give Zen Again a clean.  She's clean but it's good to keep her so.  And good exercise.  And cool!

Today we're having a rest day aboard.  Not by choice but to allow us to repair the dinghy.  She's been losing air at an increasing rate.  We identified three leaks and have attempted to patch them up.  The dinghy is more than 10 years old so she's done well.  Hopefully she'll be fit for a run ashore tomorrow.
