Ashore in Cork, Roscoff & Paris

Hi everyone,

This was one of our Schengen Shuffle trips.

On the Ferry

We flew from Edinburgh to Cork in Ireland.  Ireland is in the EU but not Schengen.  We spent a few days there, then ferried to Roscoff in Brittany.  Then we trained to Paris.

Arriving in Cork

One reason for visiting Cork was to see the oldest yacht club in the world.  Founded in 1720 the Royal Cork Yacht Club isn't a large club but it has a very active sailing program, a nice lounge and lots of interesting memorabilia.

We spent a day exploring Cork.  Nice little city.

The ferry was delayed several hours due to severe storm Ciaran.  The crossing was fun, with big swell causing furniture to 'take a walk' occasionally.

Arriving in Roscoff

Roscoff is a lovely town.  It's quite isolated, and even more so after Ciaran.  Trees were down all over western France due to the storm, including over railway lines.

We came not only for the scenery...

Cider!

Crepe!

We had to take a long taxi ride to escape Brittany to a functioning railway station.  From there we caught a high speed train to Paris.

Mulled Wine!

We had only a short time in Paris.  We stumbled upon an interesting display in the Jardin des Plantes.

Then it was time for another train.
