Shelter Cove to St Peter's

Hi everyone,

Gday from the Bras D'Or!  We departed Shelter Cove on Friday morning for an 107nm overnight passage to St Peter's on Cape Breton Island.  We had a great sail all day Friday despite frequent light rain.  At midnight we gybed N and within minutes the wind died.  We motored from there.

We departed shortly after OCC sv Bonny and overtook them in the light airs.  Initially we beam reached out into deep water before bearing away onto a broad reach.  Zen Again was doing 5 knots boat speed in 5 knots apparent wind.

Having to motor allowed us to charge the batteries after several days with little sun.  We also charged the Torqeedo outboard's battery which was last charged on our way to Carter's Beach.  As we approached the coast the rain became persistent.

The canal staff were very cheerful and helpful despite the rain.  We called ahead on the VHF and they setup the lock for us to go straight in.  Once in they cycled the lock and we just had to wait five minutes for staff to walk along to the bridge and swing it open for us.

Once clear of the canal it was a very short motor around the corner to the St Peter's Lions Club Marina.  We had booked a pen/slip/dock and after calling them on VHF they directed us to our spot where they came down and took our lines.  Still raining!  Once secure we setup our rain collection system.  That afternoon we filled 2 jerries.

Rewatering 'au naturel'

Later in the afternoon we had our first showers since Shelburne - nice!  Yesterday (Sunday) we did our laundry and reprovisioned at the Foodland supermarket in the village.  We also lunched at MacBouch where we sampled some Cape Breton ale - very nice too!
