St Pierre Outbound Day 5

Hi everyone,
At 1200 today we were at 42 10N 044 08W steering 030M, motor-sailing under double-reefed main. It was cloudy with several large, dark rainstorms to the E - where we wanted to go. The wind was 10G15 from the ENE. Our noon to noon run by the log was 112nm.

Yesterday afternoon the sun didn't come out. The SW breeze slowly veered to the NW and at 1730 we gybed. We'd changed course with the veering wind and when we gybed our course was back to 120M.

During the evening the wind decreased until the engine came on at 2300. We motored until 0830 under an overcast sky with a couple of rain showers.

This morning we resumed sailing at 0830 when an E breeze came in. Not the ideal wind direction for us. The engine went back on just before 1200.

This morning we found a couple of flying fish on deck. First for over a year. And there's sargasso weed in the water too. Looking forward to getting across the Gulf Stream over the next few days.

Around midday our Pelagic autopilot ram failed. Took only 5 minutes to fit an old Raymarine ram and get it working. We have a brand new Pelagic ram standing by - so glad we bought it a couple of months ago. The failed Pelagic ram is less only did 2000nm before dying.

We're nearly halfway through this passage. Only a Sydney-Hobart to go (630nm)!
