Ria de Muros to Ria de Vigo

Hi everyone,

Yesterday we had a glorious 40nm sail south to Ensenada de Barra in the Ria de Vigo.  We're anchored at 42 15.6N 008 51.1W in 6m over weed and sand.  We had anticipated stopping at Ensenada de Piedras Negras on the south side of Peninsula de O Grove but were having such a good time we pressed on.

Colourful fishing boats

The passage started with a light land-breeze to help us out of the ria.  This died at the mouth of the ria so we started motoring.  About 2 hours later a light WNW breeze came in and we were sailing again.  The breeze built to 10 knots from the NW and held in all day.

There were plenty of fishing boats about, and their pots too.  The boats around here are particularly colourful as the top photo shows.  That one liked us and crossed our stern a couple of times.  At least he didn't do the Malay/Thai thing of crossing close across our bows to give us his 'bad luck'!  We found pots all the way out to 100m depth.  The floats we mostly colourful and easy to spot.

Approaching Islas Cies off Rio de Vigo

The sail south was lovely with 8 knots apparent wind being enough to move Zen Again at 4-5 knots on a broad reach.  Twas great practise at working the apparent wind forward.

Rounding Punta Subrido

We entered Ensenada de Barra at 1915.  Apparently the beach is a popular nudist venue on weekends.  It took us two attempts to set the anchor.  The first showed the bottom is indeed weed over sand.

Trust all's well where you are!
