Vigo

Hi everyone,

We spent two nights in Vigo at the Real Club Nautico marina.  The marina is the closest to the town centre.  Our one full day in Vigo was spent exploring the Museum of Contemporary Art, the castle overlooking the town and the old town.

Good eating in Vigo

The museum is quite small but had some really interesting exhibits...

I reckon it's a dog!

Very clever play of coloured lights on all-white cut-outs

Perspective

We walked about 12km around the town.  Half uphill to the castle and half downhill.  The castle has nice views over the town and the Ria, but sadly it was cloudy and drizzly.  The gardens in the castle are nice.  There are also the remains of the old town dating from 100BC.

Nearly at the top!

Looking across the Ria - note the array of Viveros

After coming down from the castle we sought out a Tapas Bar where we were fed and watered (beer actually).  Great mussels, cheese platter and ham with paprika.  Very nice.  We really liked the town.

The old town is interesting with narrow streets filled with bars and cafes.  Pedestrians share the space with motorbikes, cars and small vans.

There's a nice park between the waterfront and the town.  Lots of fountains, trees, flower beds and statues.

One of many nice statues in the port-side park

Another statue

Unlike the other Real Club Nautico clubs we found the staff in Vigo unhelpful.  Maybe it's a big city thing.  We wouldn't bother going back to their marina again.

Zen Again in her berth

Today we motored/sailed to Baiona.  A smaller, prettier town and _much_ friendlier marina staff!
