Portimao Outbound

Hi everyone,
We're currently sailing in an 8-10 knot WNW wind at 36 23N 007 23W.  We're off soundings and sailng at about 5.5 knots over the ground.  The sky is clear and moonless.  The stars are magnificent.  To the east we can see the loom of the lights of Cadiz, about 50nm away.  To the south cargo ships are heading to/from the Straits of Gibraltar.

We departed Portimao at 0800 local time this morning in a nice 15-18 knot NNE breeze.  The wind gradually eased and the seas too.  The wind gradually backed to the WSW during the day.  Later in the afternoon it started veering.  At the midnight change of watch we'll gybe to head east.  Doing so will also keep us north of the shipping lane.  We expect winds to be very light tomorrow.

We are sailing for Gibraltar.  It will be amazing to be in the Med.  But we're not there yet.  There are several ports (Cadiz, Barbate etc) along the coast where we can take a break if necessary.

Trust all's well where you are!
