Hi everyone,
At 1500 today we were at 12 42N 072 21W steering 250M and sailng under double-furled yankee only at 5.5 knots. Our speed varies from 4.5 knots to 7 knots as the waves come through. It is sunny with small cumulus clouds. Thankfully no thunderstorms around. The wind is 15G20 from the E.
Last night was quite pleasant compared to Monday night. The cloud had cleared and the half-moon and stars were out. In the small hours two heavy showers came over with squally winds and lots of rain - one shower for each of us so we both got drenched. We gybed to the SW at 0300.
Today it has been dry and mostly sunny. The seas have been lumpy and the ride rolly as we've passed the cape at Punta Gallinas. That's the northern-most point of the Peninsula de la Guajira. This area is notorious for high seas and winds much stronger than forecast. Happily we've got lucky and the winds are exactly as forecast. Nevertheless the seas have been slewing the boat around as they roll under us, or occasionally break around us.
We're now sailing down the W side of the peninsula. A steady stream of cargo vessels are sailing by. Our pals on Cerulean are now about 30nm ahead. They've slowed so as to arrive after dawn tomorrow. We're pushing on so as to arrive before sunset tomorrow.
