George Town

Hi everyone,

Today has been our last day in George Town.  We've spent three nights here.  More accurately we've been anchored off Stocking Island opposite George Town.  Our first three nights were at anchor off Lumina Point, a little east of the Chat'n'Chill bar.  Tonight we're anchored off Monument Beach.

Chat'n'Chill is THE meeting place

On Wednesday we dinghied ashore to Stocking Island.  It rapidly became clear that Chat'n'Chill is the place to be.  It's a bar/cafe with a lovely beach, shady trees and volleyball courts.  The beers are expensive at US$7 each, but the vibe is great.

No need to chain your dinghy here

On our way back to Zen Again we spotted an Australian boat sv Vesna.  Turned out they're from Perth too.  We arranged to share dinghy rides into George Town on Thursday and then meet up at Chat'n'Chill.

Zen Again enjoying the sun

Early Thursday morning I dinghied into George Town's Lake Victoria in our little dinghy and Torqeedo outboard.  It was 1nm each way.  Getting there was downwind and easy.  The cut into Lake Victoria is a very narrow channel - lots of fun.  Filling four water jerry cans was also easy at the Exuma Markets Dinghy Dock.  Getting back to Zen Again upwind was wet, Wet, WET!  Completely drenched by the time I was half way.  But the trip only consumed 40% of the battery charge which was impressive.

While I did the first water run Nicki got a ride on sv Vesna's RIB to the Exuma Markets to do some provisioning - mainly bread and veg.  And then the Vesnas gave me a ride for a second load of water.  That was much faster and drier!

The afternoon at Chat'n'Chill was a little boozy but a lot of fun.  We spent time with the Vesnas and also The Daily Ark a Canadian yacht.  The three of us all plan to head north up the US east coast this year so it was good to compare notes.

Today we motored the 1nm to Monument Beach.  This anchorage is much less rolly/pitchy than our initial spot.  Very tranquil.  This afternoon we dinghied ashore and walked up Monument Hill and across to the Atlantic side.  As you come off the beach there's a flat rocky area covered in rocks spelling out yacht names.  Quite spectacular - close up and from Monument Hill.

We've really enjoyed the George Town area.  Always good to fill our water tanks.  And great to meet a bunch of cruisers, including the sv Vesna sandgropers!

Trust all's well where you are.
