Grenada Outbound Day 2

Hi everyone,
At noon today we were at 13 03N 065 07W sailing 270T at 5.0 knots on a broad reach under double-reefed main and single-furled yankee.  The wind is SE 11G16.  The seas are 1m. The air temperature is 29C, water 31C and overhead are scattered cumulus and mid-level stratus clouds.  Our noon to noon run was 113nm.  We have about 200nm to go.  Only a Fremantle-Geraldton!

Chasing the Sunset

Yesterday afternoon was a great sail with winds around 12 knots, gusting to 16, and a 1m sea.  Zen Again loved it, reaching 7 knots boatspeed regularly.  We encountered several cargo vessels, one of which we had to call to confirm she saw us.  She passed less than a mile astern.

Last night was very pleasant with light SE winds of 6-8 knots.  We averaged about 3 knots boat speed under trisail-sized main and single-furled yankee with the apparent wind almost on the beam.  The seas flattened out to less than 0.5m with no discernable swell.  Distant lightning to the W, N and NE but overhead the sky was starry.  We were in a 1 to 1.5 knot NW current which produced a large offset between our heading and our CoG.  The current allowed us to head up to get the apparent wind on the beam while maintaining our 270T CoG.

This morning the wind gradually increased to 8-12 gusting 16.  Nice sailng.  We're staying well reefed down to avoid arriving Sunday night.

Trust all's well where you are.
