Jamaica Inbound - Day 1

Hi everyone,
At 1200 today we were at 14 05N 076 19W steering 040M, sailng under full main and yankee at 5.5 knots.  Sunny with a few small cumulus.  Wind 9G12 from the E.  Our noon to noon daily run was 137nm by the log.

Pushing North

Yesterday afternoon and evening the wind stayed below 15knots and we kept full sail up.  As the afternoon wore on the wind veered to the ENE which gave us a nice lift.  We had struggled to track E of N due to a strong W current, but we sailed out of the current.  We started winning back the lost easting.

Overnight the wind increased enough for us to put a furl in the yankee but our NNE track continued.  That was nice since at last we were confident of laying the E point of Jamaica.  The only downside was a lumpier sea without the current smoothing it out.  We didn't get much sleep as Zen Again was heeled, pitching significantly and occasionally spearing out of backless waves, landing with a bang.

This morning we found ourselves once more in a strong W current - the northern broad band shown in yesterday's post.  But now the wind had veered to the E and we could still track NNE.  And the seas settled down somewhat.  Very nice.

Wildliffe-wise we disposed of a few more flying fish this morning.  And yesterday we were accompanied by a Tropic Bird for a while.  Beautful creatures.

Just a Geraldton Race to go (220nm)!
