Marquesas Inbound Day 7

Hi everyone,
At noon today we were at 07 04S 108 34W steering 260M, sailing under double-reefed main and double-furled yankee at 6 knots.  The wind was 20G26 from the SE.  Our noon to noon distances were 119nm by the log and 134nm over the ground.  Overall we've logged 2122nm and 2294nm respectively.  Our distance to go is 1807nm.

Sunset yesterday

Sunny conditions persisted yesterday, making it a very pleasant day for Nicki's birthday.  We even shook out all the reefs and furls for much of the afternoon.  At sunset we got our first glimpse of the new moon.  Overnight we initially had a spectacular view of the milky way but clouds gradually covered the sky.  By the small hours the wind was increasing and rain showers were passing overhead.  And we were back down to double-reefed main and single-furled yankee.

Dawn today

Rain showers incoming

Today we've had a steady progression of rain showers coming over, with winds gusting up to 25.  Quite mild.  A grey morning.

Below is the usual screenshot.  Yesterday we managed to ease away from SVs Xora and Onyx during the lighter winds.  We're now more than 20nm ahead.  They really should catch us rapidly in 20G25 winds, and perhaps they will!  On the right is EBBYC sv Island Kea II.  For scale they're 500nm behind, having departed Panama several days after our group.

Trust all's well where you are.
