Helford River to Fal & Truro Rivers

Hi everyone,
Yesterday (Monday) we sailed from the Helford River to the Truro River via Falmouth and the Fal River.  We spent the weekend on the Helford River - two nights on a mooring in the Pool and one at anchor east of the town.

Our day in the Pool was spent exploring.  We rowed ashore to Helford Passage (on the north side) and walked along the north shore for a mile or so through fields and forest.  We returned to Helford Passage for a pub lunch at The Ferry Boat.  It overlooks the Pool and both food and drink were very nice.  From there we returned to Zen Again for an hour before rowing to HRSC (on the south side).

On the south side we explored Helford village which is built around a small creek.  We had a mid-afternoon pint at the Shipwright.  Then we visited the small shop for bread, milk etc.  Back in the dinghy we rowed up the creek to the foot bridge we'd walked over to reach the town.

On Sunday we moved out of the Pool and anchored off the north shore.  It took two attempts to get the anchor to hold but once set she was fine.  It was fun watching the HRSC dinghy race in the afternoon.  There were many gaffers out too.

So many beautiful old gaffers

Our passage to the Truro River wasn't long enough to warrant the usual stats.  Suffice to say we had a nice NW breeze which gave us a good sail to Falmouth.  From there we motored up the river with the wind funnelling directly down the river.

Pretty river

We motored up river as far as Mopus Reach where the depth was down to 3m at mid-tide.  From there we turned about and headed back to the spot we most liked as an anchorage.  We anchored off Church Creek mid-afternoon.  A very pretty spot.

Trust all's well where you are!
