Lynher River to Yealm River

Hi everyone,

On Wednesday we motored from Dandy Hole on the Lynher River to Newton Ferrers on the Yealm River.  It was a short passage and what little wind there was, was on the nose.  We'd visited the Yealm River with my uncle Ian 20 years ago so it was a 'must revisit' destination.  It was just as nice as we'd remembered.

On arrival we got to work re-watering the boat.  There is a tap on the jetty below the harbour master's office and another at the top of the jetty ramp.  We spent the rest of the day relaxing, chatting with the crew of Moondust and planning our Thursday ashore.

On Thursday we moved Zen Again out to a mooring since one had become free.  Overnight we'd collected several litres of water in our raincatcher from the light overnight rain.

We rowed ashore and walked into Newton Ferrers to find the Co-Op.  We returned our stores to Zen Again and then returned ashore for a walk along the shore and through a woodland on the NW side of town.

The walk was quite long and hilly and after completing it we returned to town for a well-earned lunch at The Dolphin.  We'd visited this pub with my uncle 20 years ago one rainy evening.  On that occasion it was heaving and the cider was potent.  On this occasion it was much more genteel and the cider more 'mainstream', with social distancing too.  We had a great lunch there.  By then the clouds had burned off and it was a very nice afternoon.

From The Dolphin we explored further NE through Newton Ferrers.  Lots of posh houses with Mercs, Porches and Ferrari's out front.  We returned to the very nice Newton Ferrers Yacht Club for further refreshment.  From there we walked back to the jetty, stopping along the way to harvest sloes beside the footpath.

Harvesting for Sloe Gin!

It was great to revisit Newton Ferrers.  It's a nice town with several nice pubs and many nice walks in and around the town.

Trust all's well where you are!
