Bora Bora Outbound Day 4

Hi everyone,

At noon today we were at 12 50S 158 15W steering 290M, sailing under single-reefed main and full yankee at 4.5 knots.  The wind was 10G14 from the ENE.  Our noon  to noon distances were 115nm by the log and 112nm over the ground.  Overall we'd logged 488nm and 481nm respectively.  Our distance to go was 793nm.  We're a third of the way there.

Almost sunrise this morning

We continued WNW yesterday afternoon and overnight.  The wind gradually eased giving us a slowish but very pleasant night.  The seas smoothed out to less than 1m so it was champagne sailing under a glorious full moon.  Venus and Jupiter are closing on each other daily.

At dawn we gybed onto port tack.  The wind had been gradually veering towards the ESE and we reckoned we were far enough N.  The gybe angle was ugly due to the light wind and we found ourselves heading SSW.  We want to get S to get more of the ESE winds.

We're not doing too badly against other boats out here.  Southern Wing who departed with us is a 60' light-weight cat and is 140nm W of us.  So is 47' monohull Bandit which left a day before us.  And Amel 50 Traveller IV left two days after us and was motoring last night.

Every evening since departing we've been visited by a booby.  It circles us and is obviously trying to 'land on'.  He's made only one serious attempt and it ended up being a 'touch & go' with a load squawk on departure.  Our favourite booby.  We've also seen several tropic birds which are always nice to see.

Almost moonset this morning

Trust all's well where you are.
